ABOUT ABOUT

Please join us for a special workshop on Advanced Suspension and Transitions, instructed by Barkas and Addie. Sunday’s 5 hour class will focus on advanced concepts of suspension, including concepts related to transition work in suspensions.  The focus will be on rope handling and smooth work as a variety of advanced suspension positions are discussed.  This will enable participants to utilize suspensions for different purposes within their play.  The transitions portion will focus on the transition between two or more positions.  Particular attention will be paid to dynamics, which is a fundamental concept of the Osada Ryu.  The steady movement of the tied person is central to a certain mind-set, and will be discussed during this class.  Mechanics and safety of the tied person as well as fluid management of uplines will be focused on throughout the transitions instruction.

About the Presenters:

Barkas is an educator, performance artist, writer and event organizer who is originally from Vienna, Austria and currently resides in Vancouver, Canada together with his wife, Addie.

He is one of the three licensed Osada Ryu instructors in the world and was also granted permission by the late Yukimura Haruki to teach his style, Yukimura Ryu.  As a product of this high level education, he developed his own style of rope, Ranboo, which is a stormy and dynamic style of doing rope.  His approach to rope involves many philosophical, sociological, historical, physical and mathematical ideas, and has developed a particular “Interview Style”, which helps his students achieve a mind set to perfect their own style.

Addie stumbled into rope several years ago and quickly got hooked.  She loves the range and creativity involved with such an adaptable medium.  These days she wears many hats - bottom, rigger, educator, self-suspender, performer, advocate, and amateur in the old sense of the word.  She has spent the last couple years adventuring, learning, and teaching with Barkas at events around the globe, where her focus has been on supplementing his teachings with bottoming information and education.
